The future of fashion design may be revolutionized by human-artificial intelligence (AI) collaborative designs, according to a recent study from the Pusan National University in Busan, South Korea. These designs could also serve as educational tools.
The study, titled “How Complex Systems Get Engaged in Fashion Design Creation: Using Artificial Intelligence,” was published in the journal Thinking Skills and Creativity.
Its goal was to determine whether AI models might be used in real-world settings to execute innovative fashion ideas and collaborate with human designers.
According to the study, the usage of AI in the fashion sector has increased considerably in recent years. It is now utilized, for instance, to personalize fashion advice for customers, increase sustainability to cut down on waste, and optimize supply chain management.
Yoon Kyung Lee, an assistant professor, and the study’s lead author said: “At a time when AI is so deeply ingrained into our lives, this study started instead with considering what a human can do better than AI,” according to Just Style media.
Yoon Kyung Lee was interested in determining whether humans and AI could work efficiently together for the purpose of creative design.
The investigation began by employing deep convolution generative adversarial networks and cycle-GANs to create new textile designs. These models’ outputs were then contrasted with comparable designs created by design students.
When the designs created by the two groups were compared, it became clear that while they were similar, the human drawings stood out for their originality and individuality because they were inspired by the creators’ personal experiences.
According to the research, AI-generated designs might be utilized as a learning tool for those who are not fashion experts yet want to exercise their creativity.
AI could help individuals come up with their own designs.
