Out of the 3,905 requests for asylum submitted by Moroccans in 2022, the Spanish Asylum and Refuge Office rejected 3,542 applications, according to a statement made by the Spanish news agency on Thursday.

“The inhabitants of Morocco do not benefit from asylum or refuge. We know that the majority submit their application to avoid deportation. We are going to deal with them with all the guarantees but in an accelerated manner”, indicated the former Secretary of State for Migration, Conseulo Rumi, on October 3, 2018 in Rabat.

Spain received 118,842 applications for international protection in 2022, compared to 65,482 registered in 2021, an increase of 81.5 %, record since the creation of the Office in 1992.

Nevertheless, 14,235 requests were accepted by the Iberian authorities.

Venezuelans came first with 45,748 requests, followed by Colombianes with 36,012, and Peruvians, 8,937.

In 2022, migrants granted asylum in Spain are Malians, with 4,883 applications accepted, Afghans, 1,535, Ukrainians 1,337, Syrians 1,297, and Colombians with 658 applications.
