Following Morocco’s historic run at the FIFA 2022 World Cup, President Patrice Talon of Benin said that African nations should follow Morocco’s example.

In an interview, the president said that after the performance of lifetime that the Atlas Lions gave at the international football event, where they ended up taking the fourth spot, other African teams should follow suit.

Few African nations, said the president, have carried the sporting flame at the continental and international levels.

Morocco is now the first African and Arab country to make it this far in FIFA’s World Cup.

He said that Morocco’s astonishing World Cup performance is the result of work that has been done over time.

“We all watched the World Cup games with great interest, great enthusiasm, even with pride for some games. We have seen this semi-final between France and Morocco which has generated a lot of pride on the continent for the first participation of an African team in the final four,” declared the president.

He emphasized the Atlas Lions’ determination to win the competition.

The Atlas Lions had an exceptional run in this World Cup, playing against the world’s strongest national teams such as Spain, Portugal, France, and Croatia.
