Twitter users can now see how many times a tweet was read

 Social media giant Twitter unveiled this Friday a feature that displays the number of times a tweet has been viewed.

This is one of the many modifications the app has received since Elon Musk acquired it and took over as CEO.

Musk said that “Tweets are read 100 times more than they are liked.”

Musk polled Twitter users to determine whether the feature—now known as Twitter impressions—should remain on the left or the right of the column beneath a tweet.

52.2% of those who responded to the poll so far are in support of the feature moving to the right, keeping the left-most position where the real number of likes shows.

Since many Twitter users admitted to swiping past posts without actually reading them, the new feature has sparked a heated controversy in which people are demanding Musk to define the term “read.”

In the midst of this debate, a Twitter user commented under Musk’s initial tweet and said that “What if I told you you won’t need likes?”

Musk responded by saying that “likes should be private by default.”

This Twitter activity feature can be incredibly useful for figuring out how much a piece of information has spread by counting the number of people who have actually seen it.

Before activating the feature, Musk tweeted that “Twitter is rolling out View Count, so you can see how many times a tweet has been seen! This is normal for video. Shows how much more alive Twitter is than it may seem, as over 90% of Twitter users read, but don’t tweet, reply or like, as those are public actions.”
