Canada national team coach, John Herdman, said on Thursday evening that the Moroccan national team’s win over Group F, which included fierce opponents, came thanks to its good performance throughout the first-round games.

Herdman confirmed, during the press conference after the match between the Moroccan national team and Canada that the Atlas Lions managed to lead the “Group of Death” thanks to the solidity and performance of its players, who are developing in the best European tournaments, throughout the group stage competitions.

The Canadian Head Coach said that the Moroccan national team players, who have great experience, showed fighting spirit, and were efficient and resilient on the field.

This enabled them to win and qualify for the second round, adding that “the national team, which participated in many tournaments and has many experiences, is a great team and a source of pride for the Moroccan people.”

The Atlas Lions reached the next round of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, after defeating Canada 2-1 at Al-Thumama Stadium in Doha.

The goals of the Moroccan national team were scored by Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En-Nesyri, while Canada’s goal was an own goal after a deviation from Nayef Aguerd. Thus, Morocco topped the Group F standings with 7 points, ahead of Croatia (5 points), Belgium (4 points), and Canada (0 points).

The Moroccan national team will face the Spanish national team in the round of 16, who ranked second behind Japan in Group E, which saw Germany’s exit from the competition.
