Moroccans across the Kingdom gathered Tuesday morning to perform the prayer for rain, as prospects of another drought-ridden year become all the more probable.

This decision came after the country experienced little to no rain in the last few months, traditionally known for early rains.

In the Hassan Tower square, citizens gathered for a joint douae (prayer), invoking God asking for mercy in the form of rainfall.

For Muslim people, rain is generally considered the mercy of Allah.

Economically, there will be no good agricultural outcome, exports nor water availability, which may impact prices negatively and lead to more economic hardship.

The Moroccan government is planning to adopt additional financial aid in 2023 with an increase of MAD 5 billion compared to last year to fight off the difficult challenges caused by drought.
