Sharp-eyed spectators watching Morocco’s game against Croatia, on Wednesday, noticed that the game almost picked up during the second half without Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
The Atlas Lion explained to the Netherlands’ ESPN that the reason behind his tardiness was a missing shin guard.
“I had issues with my thigh, and I took off my shin guard. Someone had put a towel on it, so I lost it,” Amrabat told the sports platform.
According to Amrabat, Atlas Lion team captain Romain Saiss later told him that the referee said “if he doesn’t come, we will start.”
