The Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Morocco, Luis Mora, announced on Tuesday in Rabat, the launch in Morocco of the mobilization campaign “1of8billion”, on the occasion of the celebration of the achievement of the threshold of 8 billion by the world population.
This campaign is an opportunity to call for joint action to ensure that all 8 billion people can enjoy their full rights to create a more just, more prosperous and more sustainable world, said Mora at a panel discussion, organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Planning (HCP) and UNFPA, under the theme “Demographic trajectories and challenges”.
The campaign “1of8billion” intends to highlight the importance of the rights and aspirations of each person in the quest for global development, he noted, adding that it will be conducted in close collaboration with institutional partners at several territorial levels, civil society organizations, the private sector, research centers and universities in Morocco.
He explained that progress in health care and the reduction of poverty in the world has led to a decrease in maternal and infant mortality rates and longer life expectancies, resulting in a world with more people than ever before.
The world today faces many challenges, including population aging and climate change, but the most daunting challenge remains the issue of gender equality.
