Up to 15,000 Moroccan seasonal workers are expected to arrive in the Spanish province of Huelva in preparation for the red fruits season by January 2023, according to Spanish media outlet Sevilla ABC.

The arrivals will involve a new selection of 5,000 seasonal workers, added the same source.

The period of arrivals will take place from the beginning of January to mid-March in three phases at the port of Tarifa, Cadiz as the destination point, specified the same source.

“The Regional Committee aims to boost circular migration projects with third countries and in sectors where there is a demand for labor, it is one of the most valuable tools to promote regular, safe, and orderly migration,” continued the Spanish media.

Huelva committee described that during the last season the number of Moroccan workers was limited but could not meet labor needs of strawberries and red fruits in the province.”

Because of the labor shortage, demand for the upcoming season has increased.
