Casablanca’s Public Prosecutor on Monday placed Moroccan rapper, Taha Fahssi, known as “Toto” under custody pending investigations on a series of charges filed against him.
The prosecutor ordered probes into charges of defamation, insult, incitement and threats of violence, filed against Toto by Mohamed Tijni, Abdelouahab Doukali, Abdellah Assami, Moulay Ahmed Alaoui, and a member of the security forces who was in charge of traffic control, sources told Hespress.
It is expected that the judicial investigations will include all digital content and statements made by “Toto”, which are suspected of containing founding elements for crimes punishable by law, according to what an informed source confirmed.
Toto has been the subject of controversy for the past month since his performance at Rabat’s Grand Concert, which took place at the OLM Souissi.
Toto spoke of drugs at the conference preceding his performance at the Grand Concert of Rabat on the 23 of September.
He stated that he never intended to influence anyone with what he posts on his social media, when a journalist asked him about promoting drug consumption among youth on his Instagram account.
The controversy transpired and drew attention to various third parties, reaching Parliament and the Minister of Youth, Mehdi Bensaid, who was questioned on why the artist was picked to perform in the first place.
The controversy transpired quickly on social media, outgrew the initial problem, and morphed into numerous back and forths, which eventually led to the judicial procedures.
On social media, Moroccans are split between supporting the artist and those speaking out against him.
Recently, the rapper was denied exit from Morocco due to the ongoing judicial procedure against him, which increased public interest in this case and mobilized the rapper’s fans in support.
