The Government Council approved on October 06, a draft decree to unlock additional appropriations for the general budget, to counter the rising cost of living and persisting inflation.

Presented by Faouzi Lakjaa, Minister Delegate in charge of the budget, the plan is “taking into account the turbulent international context as a result of the continuing repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise in prices, and given the urgent need to take the necessary and urgent measures to confront this situation and limit its impact on state institutions.”

The official pointed out, in a press conference today in Rabat, that “in implementation of the requirements of Article 60 of the  Finance Law, the government decided to open additional appropriations amounting to MAD 12 billion.

According to Article 70 of the Constitution, in case of urgent and unforeseen necessity of national interest, additional appropriations may be opened by decree during the year.

The two committees in charge of finance in Parliament are informed in advance of this decision, in accordance with Article 60 of the Organic Law on Finance.
