A total of 20 people were arrested in six Moroccan cities for their alleged belonging to a network that falsified documents required to apply for Schengen visas, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) reported on Saturday.
Arrests happened in Nador, Oujda, Jerada, Martil, Rabat, and Sale, including a company director responsible for managing visa applications.
The DGSN said the detainees charged different sums of money to each applicant in exchange for allowing them to obtain an appointment to apply for the visa and deliver a file containing required documents that were false,
Some members of this criminal network are also credited with facilitating illegal immigration operations with stolen passports.
The statement explains that the police seized false documents attributed to banking entities and public administrations, third-party passports, and sums of money in foreign and national currency, among other things.
The arrest happened in collaboration with the National Brigade of the Judicial Police.
The twenty people arrested were taken into police custody and subjected to a judicial investigation, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office to reveal the circumstances of the case.
Last Monday, Moroccan police arrested another seven people in Fes for their alleged involvement in a case of falsifying visa applicants to access the Schengen area.
The individuals were arrested in the surroundings of a company managing visa applications for consulates of Schengen countries and fraudulently asked users for MAD 700 (66 euros) to process their requests.
Macron’s government decided to reduce visas granted to Moroccans by 50%, following the Kingdom’s refusal to return its nationals who are found in an irregular situation.
