Ibrahim Saadoun is expected to return to Morocco in the next few days pending the completion of administrative and sanitary procedures, said his father Tahar Saadoun in a statement to Hespress EN on Thursday.

“Ibrahim was received in good conditions to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” he said, thanking King Mohammed VI and Crown Prince Hassan for intervening and Saudi Arabia for mediating with Russia to free his son.

“Everything went smoothly in the perfect timing,” he added, as his case was in cassation court and the decision was about to take a new shape.

“The decision was about to change, either to get life imprisonment or a specific period of imprisonment,” he explained, noting that the letter he sent to Putin had a positive impact on the situation.

“The letter changed the entire image, and Russian forces began to treat Ibrahim well,” he added.

The father of the Moroccan student further told Hespress EN that mediation was the best solution at this much-awaited moment, explaining that in recent days, Russian forces launched a rocket attack on the eastern Donetsk region.

The Moroccan student arrived Wednesday evening in Saudi Arabia, following Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s mediation.

Saadoun was sentenced to death by pro-Russian separatists in Donetsk,  after fighting alongside Ukrainian forces in the city of Mariupol.

The Moroccan student joined the Ukrainian army in 2021, before the outbreak of the Russian offensive.
