Moroccan Minister of Agriculture, Mohamed Sadiki, announced on Friday that a total of 1.1 million quintals (Mqx) of soft wheat, durum wheat, and barley has been mobilized to ensure good conditions for the launch of the upcoming agricultural campaign.

The minister presented the plan to the governmental council, in a meeting chaired by the head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.

He explained the measures of the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign while indicating that all the needs for beet seeds will be met ( approximately 70,000 units of monogerm seeds) and that the supply of the market with nearly 500,000 tones of phosphate fertilizer (basic fertilizer) will be ensured.

Mustapha Baitas, the delegate minister in charge of relations with parliament highlited that this campaign will be maintaining the same price levels recorded during the previous one, during a press briefing after the Council was held, according to MAP news agency.

He added that the extension of the areas that are insured under the agricultural insurance program has been programmed with nearly 200,000 additional hectares, in the application of the provisions of the “Green Generation” strategy which aims to reach 2.5 million hectares of insured areas by 2030.

Baitas noted that during this season, 1.2 million hectares of cereals, vegetables, and oilseeds plus 50,000 hectares of fruit trees will be insured, specifying that all the relevant departments of the Ministry of agriculture are mobilized at a national level to support farmers and continuing to implement the projects of the “Green Generation” strategy.

Despite a difficult international context, Morocco’s exports of agricultural products recorded an increase of 13% compared to the 2021-2022 agricultural season.

Back in March, The World Bank approved a MAD1.7 billion Investment Project Financing loan to help support Moroccan farmers against drought effects.
