The French Council of State approved on Tuesday Géralrd Darmanin’s request to expel Moroccan preacher Hassan Iquioussen who seems to be on the run, according to AFP.
After the decision of the Council of State, the authorities went in the afternoon of the same day to the preacher’s home, in Lourches near Valenciennes in order to arrest him and deport him to Morocco, but they did not find him, according to the same source who mentioned the possibility that he was in Belgium.
Iquioussen, accused of holding a speech “particularly virulent and anti-Semitic,” is now considered on the run and has been registered in the file of wanted persons (FPR).
The 58 years-old Imam and father of 5, considered the decision of his expulsion as a “disproportionate attack” on his “private and family life” while the Council of State considered that it did not constitute “a serious and manifestly illegal attack on his private and family life.”
“His anti-Semitic remarks, made for several years, during numerous widely distributed conferences, as well as his speech on the inferiority of women and their submission to men, constitute acts of explicit and deliberate provocation to discrimination or hatred justifying the expulsion decision,” explains the highest French administrative court in its statement.
The Council of State rejected other arguments raised by the imam’s defense, ruling in particular that it “has not been proven” that deportation to Morocco “would expose him to the risk of inhuman and degrading treatment.”
“The Council of State validates the expulsion of Mr. Iquioussen who holds and propagates notably anti-Semitic remarks and contrary to the equality between women and men. This is a great victory for the Republic. He will be expelled from the national territory,” expressed the French Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin in a Twitter post.
“He will be expelled from the national territory. As soon as he is arrested, he will be placed in an administrative detention center,” said Gerald Darmanin, noting that “since 2017, 786 radicalized foreigners had been deported” and that “74 of them” have been deported in “recent months.”
