The US State Department said that it has approved a deal to sell tactical wireless systems to Morocco for $141.1 million, equivalent to MAD 1.4 billion.

Army Recognition Magazine, which specializes in military affairs said “the Kingdom received the MIDS program dedicated to command, control, communications, and technological intelligence, which includes high-capacity and anti-jamming digital communications links to exchange tactical information.”

This system operates in all climate conditions and captures data and audio signals.

The MIDS software includes two different MIDS-LVT receivers (low volume terminal) synthesizer line cards, namely LVT (1), LVT (2), and LVT.

The MIDS-JTRS second type (Joint Tactical Radio System Stations) MIDS-JTRS is a Software Defined Radio (SDR) compliant JTRS Software Communications Architecture (SCA).

The MIDS station is based on TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) data link technology with 128-time slots per second; During each time slot, only one station is allowed to transmit while all other terminals are tuned to the same network to receive.

With improved anti-jamming capability, signals are spread over 51 frequencies in the frequency range 960-1215MHz.

Transmission is suppressed around the IFF bands (1030 and 1090 MHz). The maximum power for the MIDS station is 200 watts allowing an operating range of 300 miles.

The range can be extended by relaying information between intermediate stations.

Additionally, the system can search for conventional and complex radar signals, and then intercept, analyze and even locate them.

The system has also the ability to jam, deceive, and even stop hostile radars from working.

Moroccan orders also include different equipment, namely secure communication tools, encoders, ex-navigation equipment, as well as unclassified and classified software, among other equipment.

In the three years between 2017 and 2019, Morocco imported $1 billion in arms.

Morocco’s arms supplies come mainly from the US with 90%, followed by France (9.2%) and the UK (0.3%), said the same source.

Morocco’s expenditures in 2019 represented the highest level in a decade, up compared to MAD 36 billion recorded in 2017 and 2018 respectively, and from MAD 34 to MAD 35 billion between 2013 and 2016, according to the same source.
