Abdellatif Miraoui, Morocco’s Minister of Higher Education, announced at a press conference on Thursday that the crisis of Moroccan medical students returning from Ukraine due to the war is close to being resolved.
Following the Government Council’s weekly meeting, Miraoui explained that Moroccan medical students who pursued their studies in Ukraine will be admitted to private medical faculties, noting that an entrance exam would be organized on September 24. Results will be announced on the same day.
Students from Ukraine who are studying medicine, pharmacy and dentistry (800 in total) will be integrated into the private Moroccan universities on a competitive basis.
The Ministry gave more details about this inclusion today in a published memo, explaining that the entrance exam will take into account the Moroccan curriculum and the results of the current academic year (2021-2022).
In the case where students pursued studies remotely and passed the year, the diploma they had obtained will be taken into consideration.
The results of the entrance exams will be returned the same day, said Miraoui.
Following the exam, the admitted students will be able to benefit from a support system to enable them to familiarize themselves with the scientific terminology in French.
An initial online registration via a platform set up for this purpose is needed, allowing the candidate to express his choice of universities in which he wishes to register and to upload his application.
The candidate must then submit his application in one of the centers, according to his course of study: Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences in Casablanca for medicine, Al-Zahrawi International University of Health Sciences in Rabat for pharmacy, and Rabat International University for dentistry.
Registration will take place between September 27 to 30. As for the criteria used for the distribution of students by institution and by city, the Minister indicated that the results of the exams will decide.
13 entrance exams will be organized for medical students from the first to the last year depending on the field of study, namely medicine, dentistry or pharmacy, and the candidate’s last year of schooling.
The exam for medicine will be held on the same day, simultaneously at the UM6SS in Casablanca, UM6SS of Pharmacy in Rabat at the University Sheikh Khalifa.
The exam of dentistry will be held within the International University of Rabat (UIR).
The Minister noted that they have “asked private faculties to study the files of students and check the possibility of granting scholarships to support eligible families.”
As for students pursuing specialties, the Ministry approved the possibility to conduct training in one of the national hospital institutions (for a period of 6 months, renewable if necessary) under the supervision of public colleges, provided that an agreement and coordination with the relevant Ukrainian universities takes place in order to complete these trainings for graduation.
Finally, with regard to engineering, architecture, veterinary medicine and other disciplines, the modalities of access to the national institutions of higher education have been determined in coordination with the concerned ministerial sectors.
The various tests will be scheduled during the month of September 2022. The Ministry will inform the concerned candidates and students of the different dates once they are decided.
