Moroccan Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb said that he will personally supervise the healthcare reform that his ministry had undertaken, including the training of doctors and nurses, currently a task of the Ministry of Higher Education.
The Minister shared this ambition during the discussion session on the draft law related to the health system in the Education, Cultural, and Social Affairs Committee in the House of Councilors.
“In my personal opinion, we did not mind that the custodian ministry is responsible for training professionals, whether doctors, nurses, or technicians, because it is the most knowledgeable of the sector’s needs, and of ways to match training with modern technology, and this is what we aspire to,” he stated.
Ait Taleb’s is set to oversee the technological development in the health sector that requires health frameworks to benefit from continuous training.
“Once a doctor or nurse graduates, he must benefit from the appropriate training to acquire the skills to deal with the used technology, which We do not know how far it will develop,” he added in his statement.
The issue of the internship field is one of the major problems facing the training of future health workers.
Medical students’ training happens mainly in university hospital centers, which do not have the capacity to accommodate all students.
The minister explained that this issue will be resolved with the creation of territorial health groups noting that reducing the years of training doctors “will not be at the expense of the quality of training.”
It is expected that by 2025, the number of components will reach 25 per ten thousand people, which is the lowest rate set by the World Health Organization, according to the program set by the Ministry of Health.
