Moroccan Minister of Higher Education, Abdellatif Miraoui downplayed the recent cases of cheating reported after entrance exams to medical schools in Morocco, indicating that he is waiting for detailed data on the matter.
In a statement to Hespress AR, Miraoui added that the number of cheating cases does not exceed 10, and that coordination is underway with security authorities, stressing that the concerned people and their phones were identified through investigations.
The government official noted that the matter is much less than what people imagine on social media, which has been rampant with screenshots and posts about cheating instances during the exam.
The Minister added that the ministry’s efforts to stop the organized cheating schemes nationally come in order to ensure equal opportunities for all students, saying that the phenomenon has become global and is seen in various universities around the world.
The National Committee of Medical Students in Morocco sent a letter to the Minister raising the possibility of fraud and distribution of the entrance exam for public medical, pharmacy and dentistry faculties.
The committee called for the opening of an urgent investigation to verify the validity of the circulated publications, posts and allegations of cheating in the exam, with responsibility in the event that what was circulated was proven to be true, as well as activating all legal and administrative procedures to follow up on the individuals concerned.
According to a report issued by the National Committee, the students rejected what was being circulated on social media about the possibility of leaking test subjects.
