Thousands of Moroccans call for ban of Oktoberfest

More than 17,000 Moroccans signed The Identity Promotion Forum petition calling for Casablanca’s first Beer festival to be banned.

As the announcement of the Oktoberfest continues to make waves in Morocco, a petition had been widely shared as the Muslim community considers the German festival an insult to the religion.

“The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry has decided to organize a festival to taste beer in Morocco, land of Islam and country of the Emirate of Believers,” indicates the Identity Promotion Forum in their statement.

“Its activities consist of serving traditional German dishes, many of which are pork-based, with beer tasting according to the statement of the German Chamber,” they added.

The organization behind the petition states that they consider this initiative as “a heinous act, a contradiction to Moroccan laws, Islamic Sharia and Moroccan customs.”

They explain that their decision to open this petition is to address it to the Moroccan authorities in order to prevent the authorization of this festival, adding that it is “contrary to the wise diplomacy of countries which must respect the specificities of the States in which their institutions operate.”

The Identity Promotion Forum keeps sharing the petition asking everyone who agrees with their request to sign it.
