Balenciaga raised online controversy over their newest bag, the “Trash Pouch” bag. Loyal to the name, the bag does resemble a trash bag.
The bags were first seen when Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia unveiled his autumn/winter 2022 collection.
Models walked the runaway clutching the trash bag-like bags. The bags were later on released and priced at $1,790 each.
According to Balenciaga’s official website, their newest release is inspired by garbage bags and comes in three colors: black, blue, and white.
With a rubbish bag style, the black and blue bags have a black tie, while the white has a red one.
When asked about the controversial product by Hotnewhiphop, the designer Demna Gvasalia explained that he could not miss an opportunity to make the most expensive trash bag in the world, “because who doesn’t love a fashion scandal?”
Fashion lovers all over the world took to social media to express their distaste toward the controversial product saying that the brand is mocking the fashion industry
Some people started a trend where they are holding unusual bags and saying “If Balenciaga can do it, then so can we”.
The negative reactions are only growing progressively; people are now tagging Balenciaga’s accounts and calling this fashion release ‘legal theft’.
This is not Balenciaga’s first fashion scandal, the brand has previously dressed Kim Kardashian in nothing but duct tape, and has released destroyed sneakers but the trash bags are so far their most controversial release.
