The Moroccan Ministry of Transport and Logistics is conducting preliminary studies for a new high-speed train (TGV) project linking Rabat and Fez, passing by Khemisset.
In this regard, Minister Mohamed Abdeljalil announced the upcoming launch of a detailed study on the implementation of the project and the structure of its financing.
Abdeljalil noted that the project will require significant funding, adding that the study also aims to define the environmental and social impact of this project.
The ministry plans to install 1,300 km of new high-speed train rails, and 3,800 km of classic railway lines aiming to connect 43 cities, instead of the current 23.
These new lines will make it possible for 87% of the population to benefit from trains instead of the 51% that currently use them.
The plan announced ambitions for the creation of many projects to link 14 ports and 12 airports to the national train rail network.
The implementation of another high-speed train project linking Casablanca to Agadir via Marrakech is also a part of the national railway network’s (ONCF) long-term plan, seeking to cater to the entire national territory.
