Israel’s Defense Ministry said on Saturday that the country took part in the 2022 African Lion military exercise held in Morocco, announced the Defense Ministry on Twitter.

“Officials from the IMoD and the IDF participated in the international military exercise in Morocco for the first time this past week: African Lion 2022, led by AFRICOM and the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces,” said the Ministry in a tweet.

“Israel’s participation in the exercise is an additional step in strengthening security relations between the countries,” wrote the Defense Ministry in another tweet.

“The security and defense ties between Israel and Morocco are part of a wide range of connections in the fields of economy, culture, education, and more,” said Israel’s Ministry in the same tweet.

The African Lion maneuvers took place from June 20 to July 1 in the regions of Agadir, Tan Tan, Al Mahbes, Taroudant, Kenitra, and Benguerir.

Overall, about 7,500 troops from Morocco, the US, and several allied countries participated in these maneuvers.

“The African Lion 22 features a joint task force command post-exercise, a combined arms live-fire exercise, a maritime exercise, and air exercise including bomber aircraft, a joint forcible entry with paratroopers into a field training exercise, a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear response exercise, and a humanitarian civic assistance program event,” said the US Army Southern European Task Force.

“The exercise bolsters interoperability among partner nations and supports US military-strategic readiness to respond to crises and contingencies in Africa and around the world,” added the same source.

This military event has allocated a total budget of $36 million in order to strengthen competencies in this sector.
