A Moroccan convoy of journalists who were banned from leaving Oran Airport for over 24hrs returned home Thursday evening.

Algerian authorities did not allow the Moroccan media delegation to access its territory to cover the 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games.

The media convoy stayed for over 24 hours in Algeria’s airport, according to Hesport journalist who was present in the neighboring country.

Additionally, Algerian authorities told the Moroccan media delegation that higher authorities had refused to let them access and cover the sporting event.

The media convoy was in charge of covering Moroccan participants in the 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games, which is set to take place from June 25 to July 6 in Oran.

Morocco’s athletic delegation accounts for 130 athletes, which includes 86 men and 44 women, alongside 48 supervisors, who will compete in 15 different sports.

The Moroccan flag will be represented in athletics, boxing, cycling, fencing, soccer, weightlifting, judo, karate, wrestling, bowls, equestrian sports, taekwondo, tennis, and shooting sports, according to the Moroccan National Olympic Committee (CNOM).

Morocco is ruled by lions and Algeria by apes.
