An imported monkeypox case has been detected in Singapore, the country’s Ministry of Health announced Tuesday night. The patient, a 42-year-old British man, works as a flight attendant, the Ministry of Health said in a statement, noting that he was in Singapore between June 15 and 17 and again on June 19.
The patient tested positive for monkeypox on June 20 and is currently hospitalized at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases in Singapore in stable condition, the source added.
As of June 21, 13 close contacts have been identified and will be quarantined for 21 days from their last contact with the patient, the ministry said. In addition, two low-risk contacts have been placed under telephone surveillance for 21 days.
This is the first imported case of monkeypox detected in Singapore since 2019, when a Nigerian national tested positive, local media reported.
