Diplomatic sources from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Kyiv revealed that Moroccan student Ibrahim Saadoun, who was sentenced to death for his participation in the fighting alongside the Ukrainian forces against Russia was a member of the Ukrainian naval unit.

The Diplomatic sources said that Saadoun was arrested while wearing the uniform of the Ukrainian state army naval unit.

Saadoun was enlisted of his own free will in the Ukrainian army and holds Ukrainian citizenship, which is the information confirmed by his father, the sources said.

Saadoun is currently imprisoned by a body not recognized by the United Nations or the Kingdom of Morocco, said the sources referring to the self-proclaimed seperatist Donbass region in eastern Ukraine,

Brahim Saadoun along with UK nationals Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner were said to have surrendered in April after fighting with Ukrainian forces in the besieged port city of Mariupol.
