Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Russian Ambassador to Morocco Valerian Shuvaev to neighboring Algeria this Friday evening.
Shuvaev, who has been the Russian ambassador to Morocco since 2018, will now lead the Russian diplomatic in Algeria, while Putin chose Vladimir Baibakov as the new ambassador extraordinary to the Kingdom of Morocco.
The decision comes less than 48 hours after statements of Igor Velyaev, then Russian ambassador in Algiers, about the Western Sahara issue.
During a meeting with the Algerian press on Wednesday, the diplomat said that Moscow and Algeria are in constant consultations on Palestinian issues and Western Sahara.
Algerian press notes Belyaev said that his country “called for the implementation of relevant UN resolutions.”
The new Russian ambassador to Morocco, Vladimir Baibakov, was born in 1958, graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, and held various positions in the diplomatic corps, including his work as a senior advisor at the Russian Embassy in the United States, as well as head of the department and deputy director of the North Africa and Middle East Department.
