The 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification opened Monday in Abidjan under the theme “Land. Life. Legacy: from scarcity to prosperity” with the participation of representatives of several countries, including Morocco.

The opening ceremony of the 15th session of the COP15, organized from May 9 to 20 by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), was chaired by the Ivorian Head of State, Alassane Ouattara.

Heads of State and government, ministers and at least 2000 delegates from 197 countries are taking part in this two-week conference.

Morocco is participating in this 15th session with a large delegation led by Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki.

The UNCCD COP15 is the first of three meetings of the Rio Conventions to be held in 2022. COP15 on biodiversity and COP27 on climate change will meet later in Kunming, China, and Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, respectively.
