Two suspected jihadists will be on trial this Monday in San Sebastian, Spain, for allegedly indoctrinating young Moroccans.
The Spanish National Court will process accusations of establishing contact through the Internet, in mosques, in apartments, in associations, or in leisure or sports activities, reports El Diaro Vasco.
Mohamed and Anass are alleged to have carried out a “massive recruitment, propaganda and indoctrination for at least 8 years,” in favor of several terrorist organizations, including ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Hamas.
According to investigations carried out by the General Information Office, Mohamed, an Islamic preacher and later leader of the ASSAFWA Cultural Islámico association, was the chief of the group.
Anass was mainly active on social networks “praising jihadist terrorist groups, their members and leaders, justifying their activity and inciting the commission of violent actions and suicide attacks.”
The Public Prosecutor’s Office is asking for a 9-year prison sentence for Mohamed and 5 years for Anass for terrorist indoctrination charges, and 8 years of probation upon their release from prison, as well as a fine of 3,000 euros each.
As Imam of the local mosque, Mohamed was able to gather a “large number of followers,” including minors, whom he sought to recruit through jihadist propaganda that he spread through social networks or in person.
Among the indoctrinated youth were Mohamed’s 3 sons, who were “educated according to the most extremist Islam doctrines.”
During searches of Mohamed’s home, police found a series of audios that advocated terrorism and the creation of an Islamic state governed by Sharia law.
The investigation additionally revealed that he had traveled to Catalonia, France, and Belgium to collect funds for a mosque project and for his association, where he visited “radical centers” to collect resources, and solicited money online “to wage jihad.”
