The Spanish authorities handed over to their Moroccan counterparts Rachid Aglif, a convict in the March 11, 2004 attacks in Madrid, after he served an 18-year prison sentence in Spain.

The Moroccan national was transferred in a private plane that left Madrid accompanied by Spanish agents and landed at the Mohamed V airport in Casablanca, according to Moroccan security sources, sources told Spanish news agency EFE.

It is not known whether Aglif is now free in Morocco or in police custody.

Known as “El Conejo” and considered the lieutenant of suicide bomber Jamal Ahmidan “El Chino”, Aglif was sentenced for participating in the meetings with Spanish miners who sold the explosives to the terrorists. The miners were also arrested.

He was arrested on April 6, 2004. In October 2007, the Spanish high court sentenced him to 18 years in prison.

In 2017, the Spanish authorities handed over Sael el Harrak Fouad el Morabit Amghar, two others involved in the attacks, to the Moroccan authorities.

The 2004 Madrid train bombings (also known as 11M in Spain) were a series of coordinated, nearly simultaneous bombings against Madrid’s Cercanas commuter train system on March 11, 2004, three days before the country’s general elections.

The blasts killed 193 people and injured over 2,000 others
