Morocco’s Interior Ministry has announced a series of new measures dedicated to taxi drivers with the aim of guaranteeing more professionalism and better working conditions.

According to the ministry’s statement, only professional drivers holding a trusted license and a professional driver’s card will be able to benefit from contracts for the delegation of taxi operating permits.

“The operating contracts of drivers who do not meet these conditions will not be renewed once they expire,” added the statement, stressing that these measures were set following a series of consultative meetings with taxi unions.

The ministry said that it is mandatory to declare professional drivers within provincial authorities, in order to identify the number of professional taxi drivers.

The granting of new permits and professional cards will thus be based on the objective needs expressed by the interested parties.
