In commemoration of world book and copyright day, The National Library of Morocco has issued a press release announcing the organization of an exhibition dedicated to Moroccan publications (1864-1956) from April 25-30.
The exhibition contains some of the oldest prints in Morocco, dating to the beginnings of lithography in the country in 1864. The existence of these prints is attributed to the judge of Taroudant, Muhammad ibn Tayeb al-Roudani.
According to the press release, the exhibition will be an opportunity for visitors to discover Morocco’s relationship with printing and publishing, through books and magazines that were printed in several Moroccan cities.
The National Library of Morocco, as an incubator for the oldest lithographs in the country, will allow visitors to discover some of the rarest releases: “Al-Shama’il al-Muhammadiyyah” by Muhammad al-Tawdi ben Souda al-Fassi and “The commentary on Euclid’s elements” by Nasr al-Din Muhammed Ibn Muhammad al-Taousi.
The exhibition will also be an opportunity to see samples of the first magazines issued in Morocco, in Arabic and foreign languages, from 1904 until the beginning of independence and other publications from the period of the French protectorate (1912-1956).
It is to note that, in celebration of the World Book and Copyright Day, the library also announced that all students and researchers will have access to the digital format of the national biography (6 parts), covering the years 2015-2020.
This bibliography includes about 17,461 titles, including various books, periodicals, and audio-visual media, which were issued in Morocco during the period between 2015 and 2020.
According to the library, the national bibliography for 2021 is in preparation and will be made public during the 27th edition of the International Book and Publishing Fair in Rabat.
