Morocco hosted the regional workshop on the development of a national framework for managing the response to unauthorized criminal or intentional acts involving materials outside regulatory control, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

This workshop was held from March 28 to April 1 in Rabat, through the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR), and was attended by 25 participants including 13 representing national agencies, says AMSSNuR in a statement.

These include the National Defense Administration, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Directorate General of Civil Protection, the Directorate General of National Security and the AMSSNuR, the statement specifies.

On the international side, 11 participants representing Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Oman and Qatar took part in this regional event.

This event was organized following discussions between the IAEA and its States Parties in the Middle East region on activities to promote regional, national and inter-agency cooperation.

The workshop aimed to familiarize participants with the components of an effective national strategy for managing the response to unauthorized criminal or intentional acts involving materials outside regulatory control in accordance with IAEA Nuclear Security Series (NSS) No. 37-G on the Establishment of a National Framework for Response Management to Nuclear Security Events.
