Less than a week following the prevention of girls’ return to secondary schools, the Taliban government imposed a system of gender segregation in the Afghan capital’s parks to prevent men and women from sharing these public spaces at the same time.
The Afghan Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice declared that three days a week in the parks are dedicated for women, while men could go the other four days.
“The days for visiting recreational areas and parks are divided between men and women, and women must wear veils,” the ministry said in a statement explaining the conditions to enter Kabul’s gardens.
According to Afghan authorities, those who fail to comply with the law will be punished.
