Seven people have been killed and 11 wounded since the beginning of the Russian military operation in Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday, according to the official advisor to the country’s interior minister.

The shelling of a military base in Podolsk, Odessa region, left six people dead and five wounded, while 19 others are missing, said Anton Herashchenko, quoted by the Ukrinform news agency.

In the Konotop district (northern Ukraine), a car came under fire from the Russian military: a woman and her child were injured. According to the same source, Russian strikes against the city of Mariupol, Donetsk region, killed one and injured two.

Earlier in the day, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine has started giving weapons to all citizens capable of defending the country. “We are already distributing weapons and will continue to do so for the protection of our land to all those who want to, to all those who are capable of defending [Ukraine].”
