The Government Council’s spokesperson Mustapha Baitas announced this Thursday the decision to extend Morocco’s state of health emergency from February 28 to March 31.

This move comes as part of efforts to keep up with the current health situation, which has witnessed a noticeable decrease in recent days.

The average number of new infections reported each day in Morocco drops by more than 2,900 over the last 3 weeks, 29% of its previous peak, according to Reuters’ latest COVID Tracker, released this Thursday.

COVID-19 infections continue to decline in the country, with the virus at 5% of its peak, added the same source.

The government’s decision coincides with members of the Scientific Committee’s request to ease COVID-19 health restrictions as well as procedures for international travel.

The national scientific committee also recommends dropping the mandate mask-wearing as well as resume gradually large gatherings in outdoor places, following in the footsteps of most European countries.
