Morocco’s Ministry of Tourism opened channels to identify tourism establishments eligible to receive MAD1 billion in financial assistance.
“On February 21, a call for expressions of interest was launched to identify Tourist Accommodation Establishments wishing to benefit from the state’s financial support in order to rebound from the effects of the pandemic and resume their activity, “said the Ministry in a press release sent to MAP on Tuesday.
The implementation of the financial support was agreed upon in close consultation with the concerned parties, namely the Ministry of Economy and Finance, according to the same source.
This financial aid, which targets tourist accommodation establishments classified within the regulations, involves the provision of a subsidy that improves the quality of services provided.
By the end of the evaluations of the local committees, the results obtained from the combination of several criteria will make it possible to classify the requests for support by region and for each category.
This move comes as a result of the country’s reopening of air borders as of February 7.
Previously, the government approved an emergency plan worth MAD2 billion to support the tourism sector as a means to bounce back from the negative effects of the pandemic.
The previous press release issued by the Ministry of Tourism said this plan was aimed at saving businesses, preventing massive job losses, and preparing for the revival of the sector after 22 months of the health crisis.
