Several European airlines suspended flights into Ukraine because of fears of a Russian invasion, including Lufthansa and Air France, CNN reports.
In response to security concerns, the French national carrier announced on February 21, that it would cancel flights to and from Kyiv starting from Tuesday.
“Air France will regularly reassess the situation and reminds that the safety and security of its flights, its customers, and its crews, is an absolute imperative,” Air France said in a statement on Monday.
Likewise, German carrier Lufthansa announced on Saturday it would suspend flights to and from Odessa, a port city in southern Ukraine, until the end of February.
The Lufthansa Group, which includes Swiss International Air Lines, Eurowings, and Austrian Airlines, also suspended flights to and from the Eastern European country until the end of the month.
On February 12, Dutch carrier KLM was the first major European airline to suspend flights to Ukraine, the same source specifies.
“The safety of our passengers and crew members is our top priority at all times. Due to the current situation in Ukraine, Lufthansa Group airlines are suspending their regular flights to Kyiv and Odessa,” Lufthansa Group said in a statement.
Moscow, on Thursday, said in a set of written responses to US proposals on security in Europe that it does not plan to invade Ukraine, although Western officials have warned that an attack by Moscow could be imminent.
“There is no ‘Russian invasion’ of Ukraine, which the United States and its allies have been announcing officially since last fall, and it is not planned,” the foreign ministry said in a public statement.
