During the past few days, tensions between Russia and Ukraine have escalated due to the massive movements and the presence of Russian military units near the Ukrainian borders, international media reports.
On February 12, the Moroccan embassy in Kyiv issued a communique urging “Moroccan citizens in Ukraine leave the country, for their own safety, through available commercial flights.”
“The embassy also calls on Moroccan citizens wishing to travel to Ukraine to postpone their travel for the time being,” the communique further stated.
On Sunday, the Ukrainian government vowed to leave its airspace open, despite the threat of a Russian invasion, announced the Ministry of Infrastructure to AFP.
The Ministry said in a statement published on its Facebook page, “The airspace over Ukraine will remain open, while authorities are working to ward off risks for airlines, stressing that “the closure of the airspace is Ukraine’s sovereign right, and no decision has been made in this regard.”
In recent days, many countries urged their citizens to leave Ukraine in order to protect themselves, including the US, the UK, Belgium, Canada, and Saudi Arabia.
The Moroccan embassy provided all Moroccans in Ukraine with the telephone numbers to receive their calls, in case of further escalations and difficulties leaving the Ukrainian territory:
