Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) has concluded, on February 9, a partnership agreement with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), which aims to collaborate in the exchange of data and expertise in areas of common interest.
In this partnership, both parties will benefit from technological developments in the fields of information and digital infrastructure.
The agreement also covers digital banking services, innovative means of payment as well as aspects related to crypto-asset trading platforms.
The use of online payment services has increased among citizens, as 1 out of 4 Moroccans made an online purchase in 2020, according to the control and regulation of the telecommunications (ANRT)’s report around the ICT equipment, and uses amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additionally, 8 out of 10 people believe that the pandemic enabled the increase in the use of digital tools in Morocco and that these changes will last, according to ANRT’s survey results that targeted 3,840 Moroccans in rural and urban areas.
Recently, ANRT said it expects to deploy 5G by 2023, according to its recent note on the development of the telecommunications sector, pointing out this service will respond to international standards.
