Morocco decided to suspend the reopening of maritime travel into the country, according to the Ministry of Equipment, Transport and Logistics’ recent note published on February 4.
The country is still postponing the resumption of maritime space, after some passengers hoped for its reopening, following the government’s recent decision to reopen air borders on February 7.
The possibility of travel through seaports still remains impossible for the moment, and the Ministry of Transport and Logistics did not give further information about the date of reopening of maritime space, stating “until later notice” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision to suspend the maritime border reopening does not apply to international means of transport, including trucks for transporting goods, added the same source.
Previously, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics announced on February 1, the main maritime links, including Sète-Marseille in France and Genoa in Italy, in destination to Tangier, and Nador.
The Ministry said in its previous press release that only commercial vehicles (trucks, road combinations, vans) will be able to transit by sea to and from Morocco.
Last month, a special ferry was set to depart, linking Tanger-Med to Marseille, aiming to repatriate French and European citizens stranded in Morocco as well as Moroccan permanent residents in France.
