Italian luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana said, on Monday, it will stop using fur in all its Fashion collections from this year.
Many brands have banned the use of animal fur, in a move to save the environment and animals, by adopting fake fur in their clothing items instead, including Armani, Valentino, and Versace, among others.
“The entire fashion system has a significant social responsibility role that must be promoted and encouraged,” said the group’s communication and marketing officer, Fedele Usai in a joint statement with animal rights association Humane society international.
Indeed, the luxury brand aims to move towards a more sustainable alternative like environmentally-friendly fur, by using recycled materials.
This move is supported by the Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International, following the guidelines of the Fur Free Alliance.
In December, Italy has closed all fur breeding farms, joining France and 15 other countries of the European Union, in a move to ban the use of animals’ fur in clothing items.
