The US has delivered to Morocco this Saturday, the 2nd batch of vaccines from the two shipments sent this week, which totals 1.6 million doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
This shipment is part of the COVAX program, an initiative that aims to ensure equitable distribution of vaccines worldwide.
On January 21, the US has delivered 7 specially equipped freezers to Morocco in order to increase the Health Ministry’s COVID-19 vaccine storage capacity, said the US Embassy Morocco on its Facebook page.
USAID, an independent agency that is primarily responsible for administering civilian foreign aid and development assistance, in coordination with UNICEF, provided the freezers capable of storing over 2 million vaccine doses – accounting for 45% of Morocco’s ultra-cold chain storage, according to the same source.
The US is committed to the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to make available vaccines around the world, and working closely with partners, including Morocco in order to rebuild and to emerge even stronger,” said the Affairs officer at the US Embassy in Rabat, David Greene on the US Embassy Morocco’s Facebook page.
The Affairs officer witnessed the delivery of the vaccine doses to Morocco’s main storage center in Casablanca, alongside officials from the Health Ministry.
Previously, the country has received its share of J&J through the Covax program, some 302,400 doses as well as a shipment of 850,590 doses of Pfizer, and another shipment of 1.6 million doses of Pfizer.
