The Moroccan Interprofessional Federation for Beekeeping said that it had contacted the National Office for Health Safety of Food Products (ONSA) to find out the reasons for the mass death bee colonies are experiencing across the country.
The organization revealed that the veterinary services of the aforementioned office, together with the Moroccan Interprofessional Federation for Beekeeping, made field visits to many regions and prefectures to determine the extent of the phenomenon and to reveal the causes and auxiliary factors that led to it.
A press release said that this phenomenon can be linked to a set of factors, such as weak rainfall, poor nutrition from the lack of pastures, and the health of beehives related to beehive care norms, in addition to breeder practices.
The same source stressed that the emergence of this phenomenon in Morocco requires further investigations and studies to find out its true causes and the factors that contribute to its emergence.
Beekeeping professionals in Morocco had previously expressed their dissatisfaction with the outbreak of the mass beehive collapse to Hespress EN, which inflicted heavy losses on the professionals, and significantly impacted their production this season.
