An official groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI) in Rabat, Morocco to kick off the construction of a 130 kWp Solar and Storage Facility.
The ceremony was led by Mehdi Qotbi, the president of the National Museum Foundation (FNM), and Badr Ikken, the Director-General of the Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) in the presence of Abdelaziz El Idrissi, the director of the MMVI as well as representatives of the media and personalities from the world of art, according to reports from Construction Review Online.
IRESEN and its international research platform Green Energy Park, in partnership with FNM, signed a partnership agreement in October of 2020 to develop an innovative model for energy production and management at the MMVI.
In the wake of the agreement, a system for monitoring artworks in real-time was designed, taking conservation requirements into account. This system allows for automatic control of the various parameters and consequently optimizes the energy consumption of energy-intensive terminals.
By the time the facility is completed, the contemporary and modern art museum will be able to reduce its electricity bills by 50%.
Furthermore, the MMVI will use solar energy and a storage system (of batteries) for the first time in the African continent and may serve as a model for the use of this technology in the other museums in the Kingdom and throughout Africa.
