Germany’s luxury car manufacturer Porsche sees Morocco as its third fastest-growing market, according to Manfred Braunl, CEO of Porsche Middle East and Africa in an interview with Gulf Business, the leading business magazine in the Gulf region.

Braunl explained that Porsche intends to enhance brand awareness in Morocco as part of its expansion plans in the country.

In December 2021, Porsche announced it would open 33 free-charging stations for hybrid vehicles as part of its Morocco expansion strategy.

The company has also invested heavily in developing greener programs for the brand. In total, Porsche plans to install 3,152 machines to charge cars with alternating current (AC) in 20 countries, including Morocco.

With its “Porsche Destination Charging” program, Porsche is investing heavily in the installation of 3152 AC charging stations across 20 countries.

With Porsche’s initiative, the company targeted only luxury hotels in Morocco to increase sales of electric cars.

It includes four of the best hotels in the world, including Mamounia, Sofitel Marrakech, Sofitel Tamuda Bay, Syrayan Boutique Hotel, and Paradis Plage.

In addition, Porsche plans to install future charging stations at the Sofitel Jardin des Roses, the Sofitel Tour Blanche, the Fairmont hotel Royal Palm, the Fairmont Residences Royal Palm, Complexe la Corniche, and Restaurant du Port Mohammedia.

As part of the launch of this program, Braunl expressed his desire to promote the purchase of electric vehicles and make improvements to combat global warming.

The CEO said that despite this initiative reflecting the company’s commitment to the environment, the implementation of the idea is hindered by several obstacles.

According to Braunl, the drawback in Morocco is the shortage of gas stations with electric charging capabilities. Furthermore, the country is one of the few places where electricity is not expensive, but there are not enough power stations.

Porsche considers this to be its main challenge in the development of its plan, because, without enough charging stations, electric vehicles will not be purchased. As a result, electric vehicles tend to be expensive.

In order to combat this problem, Morocco has taken a variety of initiatives in order to solve it. Afrimobility, a leading brand in the African transport sector, has announced the installation of the largest network of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles in the Kingdom. The project will cover a distance of almost 700 kilometers, traveling with multiple stations on the roads between the cities of Tangier and Agadir.
