12,200 Moroccan seasonal workers are expected to arrive in Huelva, Spain, on January 12 in preparation for the red fruit harvesting campaign, according to the Spanish media outlet Huelva24.
Europa Press specified that a total of 15 or 16 ships would arrive in the region, with a capacity of 800 to 1,000 seasonal workers.
The first ship is scheduled to arrive in January and remain until March, if necessary, until the quota is met, according to the same source.
Upon the arrival of those seasonal workers at the port of Algeciras, Huelva’s organizations will be in charge of transferring them to different points of the region.
Seasonal workers are expected to return to Morocco in mid-June, the same source specified.
Previously, those seasonal workers for this agricultural campaign were expected to arrive in December. However, their arrival was postponed due to the closure of Morocco’s borders, as part of the country’s measures to avoid the spread of the new Omicron variant.
