Kuwaiti Embassy in Morocco urges citizens to return home
Tuesday 4 January 2022 - 14:33

The Kuwaiti Embassy in Morocco issued an official statement on January 1 urging all Kuwaiti citizens in the North African country to return home.

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry issued a statement encouraging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and to remain vigilant in the fight against COVID-19, particularly against the highly-transmissible variant, Omicron.

Kuwaiti citizens are advised to return home, as the rapid spread of COVID-19 may lead to flight cancellations and overnight lockdowns.

With Omicron spreading at a faster rate than Delta, there are fears that new lockdowns could be enacted around the world. It is unclear when the world will return to pre-COVID normality with a number of countries implementing zero-COVID policies, such as China and New Zealand.

Morocco also instituted numerous measures, including banning public gatherings, closing borders, and banning banned all New Year’s Eve festivities, including setting a night curfew at 11:30 pm, resulting in mass dissatisfaction in the tourism industry.

Experts predict COVID-19 will be under control by spring 2022, despite the spike anticipated during the first weeks of 2022.
