Moroccan manufacturing companies expect an increase in production in the fourth quarter of 2021, according to the High Commissioner of Planning (HCP).
In its annual report, the HCP’s expectations are attributed to the significant increase in the activity of the “food industry, Metallurgy and the Automotive Industry” this year, with a decrease in the pharmaceutical industry and the manufacture of electrical equipment.
Regarding employment expectations, manufacturers expect overall an increase in the number of employees.
The extractive industry has also had a good year in 2021, which is expected to last through Q4. Companies in the sector expect an increase in production due to an increase in the demand and production of phosphates. Meanwhile, a decrease in the sector’s employment is also projected.
Energy production expected for the 4th quarter of 2021 is set to decrease due to the decline in the “production and distribution of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning.” In terms of employment, an increase is expected.
For the same quarter, companies in the environmental industry anticipate an increase in production, especially in the activities of “Water collection, treatment and distribution” and an increase in the number of employees.
The report also points out that the production of the manufacturing industry in the 3rd quarter of 2021 experienced a slight increase resulting from high metal product and non-metallic product productions.
Order books of the sector are considered a normal level by business leaders, said the same source, noting that employment has increased.
Overall, the rate of capacity utilization (TUC) in the manufacturing industry would be established at 75% by the end of Q4, according to the HCP.
In the third quarter of 2021, the production of the extractive has shown an increase attributable to the higher production of phosphates.
As for the production of the energy industry, it experienced an increase in Q3-2021, due to an increase in production and distribution of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning.
For the environmental industry, it recorded an increase thanks to the activity of the collection, treatment, and distribution of water, which maintained a stable employment level.
