The National Consultative Ethics Committee (CCNE) agreed on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout for children aged 5 to 11 this Thursday.

“It is important to vaccinate children and monitor the process of vaccination,” said a member of CCNE Alexandra Benachi at a press conference.

The CCNE’s green light is one of the prerequisites required by the government to extend the vaccination campaign on a voluntary basis.

While the vaccination process of some 350,000 at-risk children kicked off on Wednesday, France is still waiting on the High Authority of Health’s (HAS) recommendation before including 5 to 11 year-old children in the campaign.

Recently, Prime Minister Jean Castex said it is important to boost children’s protection because there are the most transmitters of the virus.

Many countries in the EU have approved vaccination of children aged 5 to 11, including several German states, with Berlin beginning anti-COVID-19 vaccine rollout for children on Monday.
